The Game.
The drafts, the edits, the revising, the Beta Readers, the Critiques, the edits again with revising, etc. You take one step forward and three steps back, but then you get your double turn so the hope is usually restored. However, I find myself completely out of the game. At least, that was I thought until today.
I am totally sick of not being able to write. I miss it. I find myself thinking about it all the time. I could do this, I can do that, that part should be completely cut out, you catch my drift. I'm even starting to miss my rejection letters! So after having all of these ideas and thoughts for my work, ones that never go any further for a number of reasons, something else brought me to my conclusion of where I am playing wise.
I'm simply in my time out during this game.
A strategy needs time, taking a new approach to my writing habits and ideas is what I needed, and I am going to execute this greatness like it's nobody's business when I say, "Time In."
And guess what? It's Time In.
How about the rest of you? Are you playing the game?
Ah, yes, the game. Such a fun one. (And, really, most times it is.)
ReplyDeleteI'm still in the peewee league, swinging at the ball that's sitting on a pole at just the perfect height. And missing.
Good luck with it all!
Ah! I feel your pain - I'm not quite at the same stage as yet, but I'm definitely in the time out phase, and I too am ready to get back into the game.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
You know what I did when life got insane and I couldn't get back into it? I lowered my goals to really easy standards. 200 words a day, or 500 words a week, something I knew I could do. Most of the time once I was sitting and writing I passed those numbers, and felt great about it to boot. Maybe you could try that, take a little pressure off and start small!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see ya posting again, good luck your writing!
I just started playing the game again after a month of time out. Let's go! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, that is such a great way to put it. I haven't been in the game with my main WIP recently, because I had to focus on a short story for a book that will be published this fall (so I was sort of in the game for that one!)
ReplyDeleteBut I swear, JUST before I came here, I got my huge outline for my main WIP and was going to start. This post just gave my the extra push.
Time IN!
I definitely take time outs from the game! Most recently, I've taken a slower pace to it--I figured out it's more like an endurance race than a sprint or a mad dash! ;)
ReplyDeleteI've been such an epic fail with my writing these days and I meant to get so much done, too. I really need to strap myself down in a chair with my laptop and a workbook in front of me and no internet and just write, write, write or I'll never get anything done. I need to get back in the game.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely back in the game. Have been for a 6 months. Its tough though. The edit has turned to a rewrite, and my goals keep getting pushed back. But its worth it. I want to tell the best story I possibly can about the earth, the moon and the magic in between.
