Seriously?! Seriously?!

Okay, let's just get one thing straight.

I suck at blogging now. Work consumes me and I have no internet! One of those things has to change because I don't like it anymore. I miss my conversations and news feed with writers because here where I live and the people I adore around me just--do not get it.

And without all this splendid writers news feed I find myself lacking the motivation/encouragement to write. I mean, yes, I've been writing, but compared on how I used to write manuscripts AND short stories on the side, the comparison is unreal. It's like, what's happening to me? This is a dream that was on my to do list, so what am I waiting for? To get older?

Argh. It's frustrating.

Then to top it all off, I have another story idea. It's another YA, but an Urban Fantasy. And I really, really, like what I got stored for these characters, but if I move to devour this one what about my YA Mystery? That Mystery one is all planned out, outlined to a T, and is organized as far as character/plot development (for the most part). I keep pushing the Mystery off, I don't know why. It's really great, but I don't know if I've wrote that part that drives to me to love it. But I only wrote one scene in the Urban Fantasy and know I'm goo-goo-ga-ga for that one and think about it all the time.

What the heck is wrong with me? Do any of you guys get like this?

  1. I get it all the time. I'm easily distracted by the shiny object of a new idea. It's tough sometimes. And overwhelming at others.

But it can tell you a lot about who you are as an author if you find a pattern to the type of story that distracts you the most.

  2. Sometimes having too many choices can be paralyzing, no? I tend to work on whatever consumes my mind at the moment...um, then again, I'm a panster, so, I pretty much just go with it anyway. ;)

    Good luck!

  3. There are too many things to do. I feel this way quite often. YOu just have to make choice and stick with them. When I have more than one new novel idea, I fly them by some friends and pick the one that garners the most enthusiasm!

  4. Keep your great idea in a trusty file and finish the one you've committed to. Once it gets you committed then you can move on to your secret lover. That's my plan. :-)

  5. I'm a firm believer in following the voices in my head.

Which are louder? Which make your heart race faster?

That's the story you should write.

  6. Happens all the time. I see a shiny object and get distracted from what I'm doing. I was working on two novels at once until I decided I just had to finish one and then go back to finish the other. Its worked out nicely in this case, but other times not so much.

  7. The life of a writer... We all gnaw at it indefinitely. I hope you can get used to it? It is a rough persuit, but those of us who are in it, we are in it for life. Better make the most of it!

  8. Yes definitely!
    You're right, it IS frustrating.
No one gets that I have this writing 'addiction'. I HAVE to write. But sadly none of my friends or family are/want to be writers.
So I started a blog to practice my writing and get in touch with other writers.

  9. You'll come back to it. Writing is like an old true friend; when you find time for each other, you simply pick up where you left off. There are no hard feelings, just an adoring comfort. Life is happening in between, feeding your knowledge and experience. It's actually a very nice balance.
