Not Boys in general, I already have a husband, I'm talking about YA Male POV Boys. Lately, I been dipping my feet in the unknown and it's crazy. It's scary. You question everything you type. Does a guy really look at this, how does he describe a girl, what pulls him into wanting more, it goes on and on. The one thing I love about being a guy is you can make them funny with abrupt comments and confidence. They're pretty fun to write, mind you, I'm so far from mastering any of it!
Anyways, so since I'm on this male kick I needed research. Candor by Pam Bachorz is simply amazing. I love the MC and the girl he's after. The whole plot is awesome, deals with subliminal messages and mind control. When I read about a blurb after a suggestion, I thought this does sound good, why not? I am so happy I did. I cannot wait to start reading the rest of my "Boy List."
What kind of kicks have you all be on lately?
I LOVE writing from male POV! For some reason I tend to write better in a man's mind than I do a woman's. Well, a woman just takes me longer. I seriously think I need to check out this book you're reading.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun to write from a guys POV - though it can be tricky! Gotta keep it simple *lol*

I'm actually having trouble writing about a boy from other's POV. I don't like him so I think I've made him one dimensional. I need to find a way to redeem him or make him more well-rounded. I think it is so weird that I have trouble writing a difficult character, but the characters I like are rich and lovely. Therapy possibly? :-)
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem, questioning everything I write. Does a guy really think these things? Does he notice the things that I'm having him notice? But it's fun, too--different.
ReplyDeleteHmm...a kick I've been on recently? First person, present tense. It's totally new for me, but it's awesome. And it gives me an excuse to read The Hunger Games again for research. ;)
I'll have to read Candor--I've seen it mentioned around the blogosphere a couple times, all positive reviews. Great post! =)
Hi! I've stopped by from Twitter. It's always fun to meet another writer. Good luck with your new-to-you character pov. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I'm writing a ms w/ a male pov. When I'm unsure about something I always ask my husband...he inspired the character anyhow. ;)
