I am almost done with my first semester back at college. YAY! After Wednesday I have about a month to myself before going back. I am pretty excited about no homework and to start reading a lot of my friends WIPS. I did have a really great experience with one particular moment during this semester though.
For my Speech class, our teacher offered extra credit to those who would do a dramatic reading. My first thought--Me? Dramatic? No way!
BUT...
I thought it's extra credit, so why not? He gave us the usual choices, Shakesphere and such, but he also let it be free as long as we cleared the idea with him. Smart little me wanted to read something I wrote myself. I really didn't think it would be hard. I wrote this really dramatized passage about feeling doubt and then yesterday presented it, with a twirling stomach.
For the first time, I actually saw everyone, and I mean everyone, looking at me, listening to every word. Not even the people hiding in the back, texting on their phones as usual, ignored me. It was simply awesome! Truly, I think I nailed it and it was even better knowing that is was my own writing piece.
I am one happy writer!
